It’s another cold day here and we have snow/ice all over the place. What better thing to do when it’s cold and yucky out. Cook of course.
I love to cook, try out new recipes, and make up my own. I pulled out my trusted Fed & Fit book and found a recipe for Rustic Pot Roast. We have a couple of roasts to use up in the freezer so today was a perfect day to use one.
The recipe could be done in the oven or in the slow cooker I choose the slow cooker option. I love love love my slow cooker. I mean Hello!!! Throw a bunch of stuff in turn it on, and walk away. Come back hours later and you have a delicious meal ready to go. I love it so much that tomorrow night’s dinner is also being cooked in the slow cooker. I really need to look into getting another one.
The picture on the right is what the picture from the book looked like. Well I don’t know if mine came out to look like that exactly as my husband dug into the slow cooker before I even had a chance to take it out. But, here’s what it looked like on his plate.
Well what I could get a picture of. It’s safe to say he enjoyed it.
I don’t eat beef so I made myself some tilapia with a salad, although I did try some of the veggies. And, well if the roast tasted anywhere near as amazing as the veggies than it must of tasted pretty darn good.
We spent the day looking for sinks and refrigerators. Yes, we are looking to remodel our kitchen. I mean I currently have a 24″ oven. What the heck do I do with that? My cookie sheets don’t even fit in the darn thing. As for the sink I have the dumbest designed sink on the planet. It’s 36″ so standard size but it has 2 basins, but the one basin is maybe 6″ but then add in the rim to decide the 2 basins and you’ve lost several more inches. Oh and the garbage disposal is in the little tiny basin which is pointless. I HATE double sinks. I just want one big basin. We went and looked today. I fell in love with a copper one however it just won’t go with the rest of the kitchen as everything else will eventually be stainless. Plus I just got a new $300+ faucet that is stainless and my faucet that I love is not available in copper. I have the touch faucet it’s AMAZING!!!! I highly recommend them. I found a couple of single basin sinks that are stainless that I liked, so we are debating between a couple.
As for refrigerators, well ours is a Kenmore from like 1970 it’s a side by side model and I hate it. Yes, can you tell I’m super particular about my kitchen appliances. Side by sides are awful there is never enough space in them. Forget about putting a big platter in them, or anything with height. It’s ridiculous. So anyway I’m in love with the Samsung 4 door flex fridge. If you’re wondering what I’m talking about you can check it out right here.
Now, the price tag is a bit insane and I’d never pay that. Well, we decided to pop in to HHGregg and BAMMMM!!! They had one for $2500 because there is a small dent in it. Uhmmmm what!!!! Yes, please. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. As we promptly went home to measure the space. We have a very little space with very little wiggle room to work with. The way our house is set up the bottom right door which is where the freezer is, can’t open enough to get into the drawers. Yeah, sad sad face right here. Since we aren’t ready to gut the entire the kitchen and work over the whole thing we had to pass on it.
We are going to head to Ikea tomorrow since my office is closed due to the snow and look at kitchen ideas, cabinets, counters, and even appliances. I love the innovative ideas of Ikea’s cabinets so it’ll be fun to get some ideas.
It’s definitely easier to cook healthier and also enjoy cooking when you have a nice functioning kitchen. Because, let’s face it 90%of weight loss starts in the kitchen. You can’t outrun a poor diet.
So today has been a pretty decent day. Got lots of walking done in Home Depot, Lowes, and HHGregg. Tomorrow I’ll get a ton of steps in with my IKEA tour.
As for eating I did really well, well except for the whole skipping breakfast thing, but other than that I did well. Had a good lunch, which consisted of a raccoon meal, I’ll tell you more about them some other day, I had a string cheese for a snack as I was in need of one, and then my dinner.
Tomorrow will be a bit crazy but I’ll handle it well. I’m taking a protein shake for breakfast on the road, and I’ll have a salad for lunch and then my dinner that will be waiting for me when I get home thanks to the slow cooker.
